As the kharif season gains momentum in UP, farmers in Badayun district of state are troubled by the shortage of urea in Kunwargaon Nagar panchayat. Despite of rushingfrequently at the cooperative society farmers are not able to get urea. Even after waiting for hours, they are often unable to get the required fertilizers adding. Adding more woes to the condition farmers are forced to purchased zinc along with urea that results in more expense than required. Several farmers reported that to get urea at cooperative society they need to carry Khatauni, Aadhar card among other mandate documents, despite of these they get less urea bags than requirement.
Complaints of Black Marketing of Urea and Forced Product Tagging
Additionally, complaints have emerged about dealers forcibly selling zinc and other products along with urea. Taking advantage of the crisis, some sellers are charging inflated prices for urea and diammonium phosphate (DAP). Being an agriculture dominant area, crops are grown on large scale in Badayun, UP. Apart from paddy, sugarcane, and different other types of farming are done in the area during the season. Urea fertilizer has been overrated at the shops as well. Though the govt. has fixed the rate at Rs 266 per sack, farmers are forced to pay something around Rs 300 to 350 per sack at private shops. Shortage of fertilizers is leading to the spoiled paddy crop and frustration among farmers.
