In a significant move to smooth the trade process and enhance transparency, the government announced on Wednesday that exports of non-basmati rice will now be permitted only after registration with APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority).
Dr. Prem Garg, National President of IREF, participated in the demonstration meeting of the APEDA Non-Basmati Rice Software (RCAC) and welcomed the recent decision by the government. Applauding the government’s initiative, Dr. Garg stated that the move would bring transparency and uniformity to the export policy and trade.
He further clarified that there would be no issues related to dollar transactions, as the registration fee is fixed at just ₹8, ensuring it will not affect the price.
Furthermore, Dr. Garg said that this message should be communicated to all ports, with the process set to begin at 3 PM. Not only this, but he also assured that the IREF team would be available to guide in case of any queries.
He said, “This initiative will benefit the entire trade ecosystem. Once a contract is registered, the buyer’s name and brand will be listed on the website. This helps in resolving the common issue where some buyers default on or delay payments or switch to other suppliers. With this system in place, defaulting buyers will fear as they will not be able to purchase the stock from India. Overall, this move will encourage better accountability.
In conclusion, he called it the best move by the government for trade in recent times.
