Dr. Prem Garg, National President of Indian Rice Exporters Federation (IREF) on Monday Visited the office of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq and The Gambia High Commission to extend his invitations to the ambassadors of Iraq and The Gambia for the upcoming Bharat International Rice Conference (BIRC) which is set to be held at Bharat Mandapam on 30 & 31st October 2025.

Dr. Prem Garg, National President of IREF visited H.E. Nazar Mirjan Al-Assadi, Charge D’Affaires of Iraq and H.E. Mr. Mustapha Jawara, High Commissioner of the Republic of The Gambia at their respective offices and invited and approached them for the active participation of rice importers from their respective countries at the World’s Largest Rice Conference, BIRC 2025 on 30-31st October 2025 at Bharat Mandapam. Dr. Garg also presented a memento of BIRC 2025 to the Ambassadors of Iraq and The Gambia.
Iraq – Major Importer of Indian Rice

Iraq is one of the major importers of Indian rice with the approx. figure of 9.05 lakh tonnes of Indian basmati rice imported in 2024. This made Iraq the second-largest importer of Indian basmati rice in 2024. The strategic meeting of Dr. Garg National President, Indian Rice Exporters Federation (IREF) ahead of BIRC 2025 with the ambassadors of Iraq and Gambia highlights his vision to strengthen Indian rice sector and the Indian Economy. Active participation of rice importers from Iraq, Gambia and other nations at BIRC 2025 will help strengthen the business ties with these countries and will pave the way for more broaden policies for rice import and export.
