On Wednesday, December 3, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu revealed a five-point agriculture strategy and recalled the government’s commitment to turn agriculture into a sustainable and profitable one by executing this plan.
Agriculture strategy intends to educate Farmers
He addressed the farmers at Raitanna.. Mee Kosam programmer in Nallajerla of Gopalapuram constituency, and asserted that this agriculture strategy initiative intends to educate farmers, promote scientific cultivation and ensure long-term welfare of farming families. Not only this, but the CM also inspected the intercropping patterns practised by Local farmers and interacted with them regarding new cultivation techniques. He stressed that agriculture is the backbone of the state, as 62% of the population is dependent on farming and allied sectors. Moreover, he appealed to the farmers to explore allied sectors such as dairy, poultry, fisheries and horticulture to boost incomes.
Outlined the need to conserve groundwater
He outlined the urgent need to conserve groundwater by treating land as a natural reservoir. He recalled that linking the Krishna and Godavari rivers will remain a top priority. Furthermore, he said that groundwater levels in the state currently average 6.8 meters, with East Godavari reaching 18 meters due to soil conditions, whereas some districts like Prakasam and Eluru faced declines. Moreover, he promised that better canal management and reservoir optimisation would ensure irrigation water for every acre.
