Vedanta Group Company Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) is setting up a 5 lakh tonnes capacity fertilizer plant at Chanderia in Rajasthan. The fertilizer plant is poised to be operation by the first quarter of FY 2027. The plant been made in Rajasthan with an investment of Rs. 1,800 crore is aimed at supporting farmers’ needs through production and sale of DAP fertilizer which is currently being imported.
The fertilizer plant will produce DAP and NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) fertilizers. It is executed through Hindustan Zinc Fertilizers Private Limited, a 100% subsidiary of HZL. Funding for the project is done through internal and external sources. Post completion the segment is expected to generate a revenue of Rs 2,000-2,500 crore at peak. This commendable move will also reduce dependence of India on importing nations as India imports 60 percent of its DAP and 10 to 12 percent of NPK from importing nations. The fertilizer plant in Chanderia, Rajasthan is expected to play an important role in reducing India’s dependence on fertilizer imports.
