Centre Allocates 22 LMT Sugar Quota for December 2025

Food Ministry allocated a monthly sugar quota of 22 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT) for December 2025 which was 20 LMT for domestic sale in November 2025. The 22 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) sugar quota for December 2025 is considered adequate as per the current sugar supply. The new 2025-26 sugar season in India has started, with many mills in major producing states like Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra beginning their crushing operations. Further, the market is also anticipated to be well-supplied due to the full swing of the new crushing season. However, experts suggest that the release of 22 LMT, in a period when fresh stock is consistently arriving in the market, will likely lead the domestic market to trade sideways to negative sugar pricing

Analysis of Sugar Quota for December 2025

In November 2025, the government had allocated a monthly sugar quota of 20 LMT for domestic sale. The overall quota for the 2023–24 season (October 2023 to September 2024) was 291.50 LMT, whereas for the 2024–25 season (October 2024 to September 2025), the sugar quota stood at 275.50 LMT.

The market is poised to be oversupplied due to the full-fledged start of the crushing season. If talked about sugar production, Industry estimates project a significant increase in overall sugar production for the 2025-26 season, rising by nearly 18.6% compared to the previous year. To conclude, given the ample supply the 22 LMT quota for December 2025 is considered sufficient to meet demand, and the abundant supply is expected to maintain stability in sugar pricing.
