Farmers of Maharashtra, gets a big news of relief. The central government has accepted the demand of the farmers and extended the last date for government purchase of tuar dal to 28th May, 2025, which was earlier scheduled on 13th May. As per the officials the deadline for purchasing tuar, was earlier fixed for April 30, but was later extended to May 13 on demand from farmers but many farmers are willing to sell it to government agencies as it is more profitable than selling the pulse in the open market.
Now since the deadline for buying tuar is May 28, farmers will be able to sell their crop to government agencies. The central government has approved the purchase of total 2,97,430 metric tonnes of tuar, under which under which 1,02,951 metric tonnes of tuar has been purchased from about 69,000 farmers as per the updated data till May 13, 2025. Total 1.37 lakh farmers have registered to sell tuar in Maharashtra.
764 procurement centres are active for the purchase of tuar dal in the state and the MSP of tuar has been fixed at Rs 7,550 per quintal which is better than the market price. The anticipated production of tuar is 35 lakh tonnes, which is comparatively higher than the previous year. However, the demand for tuar is 38 lakh tonnes.
According to traders talk about 10 lakh tonnes of tuar dal can be imported this year, where the government has also approved duty-free import of tuar till March 31, 2026.
