As per sources, the Bangladesh govt. has sanctioned the procurement of 50, 000 metric tonnes of non-basmati parboiled rice for the 2025-26 fiscal year through an international tender. Notably, the proposal received sanctions from the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase at a meeting chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin on November 9, at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
Proposal for importing Non-Basmati Parboiled Rice initiated by Bangladesh Ministry of Food
The Bangladesh Ministry of Food has initiated the proposal of importing Non-Basmati parboiled rice that is around 50,000 tonnes, and the Directorate General of Food has implemented it. Interestingly, the proposal of importing Non-Basmati rice includes the purchase of rice from M/S Gurudeo Exports Corporation Private Limited, a supplier from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. The aggregate cost of consignment is estimated at Tk 217.68 crore, with each metric tonne which is at $356.78 under the procurement plan. Ultimately, it will help in endorsing the rice market stabilization and social safety programmes and initiatives under the Bangladesh government.
Gurudeo Exports- selected as the responsive bidder
Particularly, Gurudeo Exports was chosen as the responsive bidder following the evaluation of submissions within this international tender process. It is noteworthy that once the Non-basmati parboiled rice is imported, it will automatically be added to the Bangladesh government’s food stock to support rice market stabilization and social safety net programmes.
