Tensions continue to rise as Israel-Iran war enters eighth day. In the midst of this turmoil Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), organised an online meeting with Indian Rice Exporters which was aimed at discussing the issues face by exporters amidst the conflict and ways to resolve it. Dev Garg, the Vice-President of Indian Rice Exporters Federation (IREF), stressed on the shipment problems faced by exporters due to the ongoing tension between the two countries.
He further highlighted that that insurance on exports to Iran has become even more complicated as Insurance companies do not cover the damage caused due to war. Dr. Prem Garg, National President of the Indian Rice Exporters Federation (IREF) urged urged APEDA to hold the second round of meeting in the next week to discuss the problems faced by Indian rice exporters due to the ongoing Israel – Iran War.

Chairman of APEDA, Abhishek Dev instructed exporters to keep an eye on the ongoing tension between Iran and Israel. He also assured exporters that APEDA will raise the insurance related issue before the concerned agencies. A second review meeting will be held with the exporters in the upcoming week to discuss the problems faced by Indian rice exporters due to the ongoing tension between Israel and Iran.
Iran is the third largest importers of Indian basmati rice, with India exporting Basmati rice worth about Rs 6,374 crore to Iran, which was about 12.6 per cent of the total exports in the Financial Year 2024-25. Iran imports mostly Basmati rice from India and imports some other rice varieties, including parboiled rice.
