In a significant stride towards strengthening India’s agricultural exports and advancing global food security, APEDA facilitated the export of 20 metric tonnes of fortified rice from Chhattisgarh to Papua New Guinea (PNG). This achievement marks yet another milestone in India’s fortified rice export journey and reflects the nation’s growing prominence in the global rice industry and nutrition-focused agri trade.
The State of Chhattisgarh, known for its strong agri base and one of the major rice producing states in India, has consistently promoted rice export and value-added food products, empowering local farmers, millers, and exporters to reach global markets. The latest APEDA export initiative underscores Chhattisgarh’s vital contribution to the Indian rice export ecosystem and the country’s expanding role in global trade of nutrition-enriched food.

He stated that this successful agriculture export from Chhattisgarh demonstrates India’s competence in providing science-based, high-quality fortified rice that supports international food security goals. Mr. Dev reiterated APEDA’s commitment to enabling exporters through quality assurance, value-chain development, and strategic market linkages to drive export growth in the agriculture sector.

What is Fortified Rice?
Fortified rice is produced by blending rice flour with essential micronutrients such as iron, folic acid, and vitamin B12. The fortified kernels are shaped to resemble natural grains and mixed with regular rice in a prescribed ratio, significantly improving the nutritional profile of this staple food.
The export of fortified rice from India not only showcases the nation’s technological expertise in food fortification but also reaffirms its leadership in addressing global nutrition and food security challenges. This successful shipment from Chhattisgarh to Papua New Guinea stands as a testament to the strong collaboration between APEDA, the Government of Chhattisgarh, and the private sector, reinforcing India’s position as a dependable partner in the global agri-trade ecosystem.
