Agriculture Urea shortage triggers chaos at PACS centres in Telangana

Agriculture urea distribution drive at PACS centres in Khammam district of Telangana turned chaotic as farmers thronged PACS centres in search of urea. Despite early arrival at the centre, many farmers were denied due to a token-based system favouring prior recipients. As soon as the information surfaced that coupons were being given for the distribution of urea, farmers started gathering at the centre and waited there in long queues.

Agriculture Urea Shortage Triggered Anger Among the Farmers

Despite knowing that urea would be distributed only to those who had received token, farmers expressed their anger at the officials at M Venkatayapalem. Days back in Uttar Pradesh, Shortage of urea at Badayun district also troubled farmers. Farmers complained about the shortage of agriculture urea in the district and overpricing at private shops. The urea shortage and chaos at Karepalli, led to health-related issues for an agriculture officer available at the centre. The agriculture officer fainted after being mobbed by the crowd

Centre Raised Concerns Over the Misuse of Agriculture Urea

Days back, Central govt. raised serious concerns over the rising misuse of agriculture urea in several states including Andhra Pradesh. The government suspected the use of agriculture grade urea for industrial and non-agricultural purposes. Notably, In Khammam rural mandal, farmers in large numbers reached PACS sub-centres in Gudimalla, Maddulapalli, Tallampadu, Pallegudem, Muthagudem, M Venkatayapalem and Theerthala Kasma Thanda to get agriculture urea after learning that 200 to 400 bags had arrived at the centres.
