Agricultural Scientists inspected the Direct Sowing of Rice in UP’s Deoria

On Thursday, July 24, Agricultural Scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendra and the International Rice Research Institute inspected the direct seeding of rice paddy in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria. This innovative method contributes to water saving, cost and time also. Not only this, but, Dr R.K. Malik, scientist of International Rice Research Institute, along with agricultural scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendra Malhna, inspected direct sowing of rice in the villages of Pathakoli, Labkani, and Laxmipur. During the inspection, agricultural scientists gathered information from farmers regarding their experiences the direct sowing of rice. Malik explained to the Farmers that rice is directly sown using a seed drill machine after creating adequate moisture in the field. This eliminates the need to prepare and transplant paddy seedlings. There is no need to prepare paddy seedlings in this method.

It turns out to be water saving, cost saving, time saving, labour saving, and besides this, production per katta (a local unit of land measurement) has been reported to be higher. In these villages, 15 farmers have collectively adopted this method, sowing rice directly in 35 acres of Land. Malik also advised the farmers to use three boom nozzles for weed control, saying: “tests of weedicide-tolerant species have also been conducted here, and the initial results are very encouraging, resulting in satisfying the Paddy Farmers.

Additionally, Krishi Vigyan Kendra in-charge Dr. Mandhata Singh stated that by adopting this method, paddy production also becomes easier, along with saving natural resources. Such tests have been conducted in about 500 acres through the International Rice Research Institute and Krishi Vigyan Kendra Deoria. Dr. Kamlesh Meena highlighted that sowing of long-duration varieties of paddy can be done in the last week of May, and sowing of short-duration varieties can be done in the last week of June using this method. On this occasion, Dr. Ajay Kumar, Dr. Dilbar Singh Pratihar, Sharad Chand Rai, farmers Krishnamohan Pathak, Gangesh Pathak, Adhya Pandey, Ashok Tiwari, Sunil Gond, Vijay Tiwari, Satyaprakash Mishra, Jaiprakash Upadhyay and other farmers were present.
