25 May is celebrated as Africa Day, the day is celebrated to commemorate Africa’s independence and struggle for liberation from colonial imperialism. Africa Day was celebrated at Taj Hotel, Delhi which was attended by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Mozambique’s Ambassador to India and the Dean of African Heads of Missions, Ermindo Augusto Ferreira expressed his happiness over participation of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in the Africa Day Celebrations at Hotel Taj Palace, Delhi.

During his visit, Foreign Minister Jaishankar described the relationship, connectivity and empathy between India and Africa as “truly special” and expressed India’s commitment to Africa’s development. The Program was attended by Dr S Jaishankar, Diplomats and intellectuals from Africa and India, Indian Rice Exporter’s Federation (IREF) National President Dr. Prem Garg, IREF National Vice President PK Swain, African Chief of Mission, among other individuals.

The theme for Africa Day 2025 was “Justice for Africans and people of African descent through reparations”, the theme of Africa Day 2025 provides an opportunity to reflect on emerging trends, persistent challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. The Organisation of African Unity (OAU) was established on May 25, 1963, which was 38 years later introduced to the world as the African Union (AU).
