760 Metric Tonnes of Indian Onion Arrive at Sonamasjid Land Port

Amid the rising price of Onion at Local Markets in Bangladesh 760 metric tonnes of onions has arrived in Bangladesh from India through the Sonamasjid land port in Chapainawabganj. The consignment carrying onions arrived in 23 trucks. This was the second shipment since the government permitted the imports of onion. The first consignment of 100 metric tonnes had already arrived in Bangladesh after which the second assignment of 660 metric tonnes was sent to stabilise onion prices ahead of the upcoming season. Four trucks carrying the consignment entered Bangladesh land port around eight months after the neighbouring country halted exporting onion.

Govt. Allowed Onion Import to Curb Price Hike

Bangladesh started import of onion from India after commerce advisor Sk. Bashir Uddin announced the import of onions to stabilise the local market. Local traders in Bangladesh are hopeful of stabilisation in price after the recommencement of the import from India.
