4 TONNES OF PDS RICE SEIZED IN TIRUPATTUR, TAMIL NADU

Tamil Nadu Railway Police has seized 4 tonnes of PDS rice from Tirupattur, the rice was meant for supply under the Public Distribution System. Reportedly, the rice has been transported from an express train at Jolarpet railway station in Tirupattur. In this context, police said that on the orders of Collector K. Sivasundaravalli, a special police team has been formed to prevent the smuggling of PDS rice in the district, where during a checking at Jolarpet railway station, 4 tonnes of PDS rice were found in 80 sacks.

Similar case was reportedly registered at Kota Police were police seized 7 rice bags containing 274 kg of rice under the Anna Bhagya scheme at Padukere, Manuru village. Police at Tirupattur has started investigation into the matter, and scanned the CCTV footage installed at the station, it was found that some people were unloading sacks of PDS rice near the platform of the railway station. Special teams have been formed to nab the suspects in this case and Jolarpet police have registered a case and started further investigation into the matter.

Fortified Rice Distributed Under the PDS

Fortified rice is distributed under the PDS to combat anemia and malnutrition. This process is gradually being implemented across the country in all government schemes under the National Food Security Scheme.
