In a significant move to monitor the illegality of government-supplied rice under the Anna Bhagya Scheme, authorities carried out a raid in a rice mill in Gulvadi village, Kundapur, in Udupi district in Karnataka. They seized around 27 quintals of government-supplied Anna Bhagya rice. Notably, the rice was stored illegally. Two individuals, named Sharath Shetty and Salaam aka Pakir Byari, are being accused of purchasing and storing the rice. In a recent move, a case has been registered at the Kundapur Rural Police Station under the Essential Commodities Act.
Anna Bhagya Scheme rice was stored illegally at a rice mill
On October 10, Saturday, the police authorities stated that a Food Inspector from Kundapur received credible information from the agents that government-supplied free Anna Bhagya rice was being illegally stored at a rice mill situated at Kambalagadde Road at Gulvadi village, in Kundapur taluk of Udupi district . Without any delay, the authorities acted on the tip and conducted a raid at the rice mill owned by Sharath Shetty. Apparently, they found that Sharath Shetty and Salaam, aka Pakir Byari, allegedly purchased and stored Anna Bhagya rice unlawfully. During the raid, the authorities seized the two varieties of rice, nearly 27 quintals of illegal storage rice, which is valued at Rs 62,100. In retribution, the authorities registered a case at the Kundapur Rural Police Station, under Sections 3, 6, and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.
