10K Farmers Gather At Tree-Based Agriculture Seminar in Housr, Tamil Nadu

Nearly 10,000 farmers gathered in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, on Saturday, December 29, to attend a seminar on tree-based agriculture and going to learn about how to earn a steady income from it. Notably, the event was organised by Cauvery Calling, which is an initiative run by Isha Outreach. In addition, the event was graced by the presence of Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Isha Foundation founder Sadhguru.

What did the Sadhguru say in the Tree-based Agriculture event?

Sadhguru from Isha foundation,  addressed the gathering and spoke about the restrictions faced by the farmers while growing and selling trees on their own land. He mentioned that farmers should not need government permission to cut or sell trees they have grown themselves. He added that the purpose of politics is to serve people. When it comes to the source of our life, we should not all be different opinionated. Now all of us are on one stage, on the same page; it is very fortunate.

Tree-based Agriculture could improve farmers’ income

Taking to X, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan posted some pictures from the event and wrote: “I am deeply moved by the heartfelt and affectionate welcome extended by my brothers and sisters on the sacred land of Hosur. My sincere gratitude to each one of you for this immense love and warmth”. Furthermore, he articulated the significance of planting trees and stated that I have been planting trees every day for the past 5 years, and I planted one in Hosur today as well. People join me in planting trees on their birthdays, wedding anniversaries, and other special occasions.

Revered Sri Sadhguru Ji has said that it has become a tradition to plant a tree when a daughter or son is born. Therefore, you too should definitely plant a tree. Moreover, Minister Chouhan, reviewing a huge crowd in the event, said tree-based agriculture could facilitate enhancing the farmers’ income and water availability if adopted at scale. Not only this, but he also invited organisers to share their experience with the agriculture ministry as inputs for future policy discussions. Agricultural scientists from national research institutions and farmers from several states also spoke at the event. Eventually, they shared examples of tree-crop farming and explained how some farmers have benefited from it.
