Telangana Rolls Out Statewide Audit Of Custom Milling Rice Operations

The Telangana government has decided to conduct a comprehensive audit of the Custom Milling Rice (CMR) system from 2014 onwards to recognise irregularities and recover pending dues from rice millers. Notably, the move comes amid growing concerns over delays in delivery of milled rice and alleged diversion of government-procured paddy. Moreover, the audit will assess records related to paddy allocation, milling, rice delivery, and outstanding balances sustained by mills over the years. Officials are expected to examine the extent of losses to the state exchequer and take action against defaulting millers.
Not only this, but the CMR system requires millers to process government-supplied paddy and return the specified quantity of rice within a fixed period. But, several rice millers have faced allegations of failing to meet delivery obligations, leading to disputes and recovery efforts by authorities. In addition, the government hopes the audit will bring transparency, boost monitoring mechanisms, and ensure accountability in the state’s paddy procurement and milling operations.

How Thailand Maintains 2026 Rice Export Target at 7 Million Tonnes?
Thailand expects its rice exports to climb to 7 million metric tonnes in 2026, down from 7.9 million tonnes shipped in 2025, as global competition and lower rice prices weigh on overseas sales. Furthermore, the Commerce Ministry stated that the country remains committed to retaining its position as one of the world's leading rice exporters by boosting trade partnerships and expanding into new markets. According to officials, rising competition from major exporters, particularly India and Vietnam, along with changing exchange rates and softer global demand, has influenced export prospects this year. To address these challenges, the government is working with exporters to promote premium Thai rice varieties, such as jasmine rice, and enhance market competitiveness.
Apart from that, the ministry is focusing on market diversification and value-added exports to support long-term growth. Despite the lower export projection, authorities remain confident that Thailand's reputation for high-quality rice and continued trade promotion efforts will help maintain its presence in global markets.
