A young farmer from Odisha's Ganjam district has achieved a remarkable milestone by exporting seven tonnes of the nutrient-rich Labanya variety of black rice to Chicago, USA. This move highlights the growing global demand for Odisha's speciality agricultural produce. A progressive farmer named Bikram Goud, based in Chikiti Gada village, has cultivated the premium black rice on 10 acres of farmland during the current season. He harvested more than eight tonnes of the crop, of which seven tonnes were exported to the United States, whereas the remaining one tonne was sold in Koraput. Notably, this achievement has brought international recognition to Odisha's agriculture and demonstrated the export potential of value-added indigenous crops. Moreover, Black Rice is known as a nutritional powerhouse. It is rich in anthocyanins, the antioxidants responsible for its distinctive black-purple colour. It is a good source of dietary fibre, iron, protein, flavonoids and several essential minerals, making it increasingly popular among health-conscious consumers worldwide. Significantly, the Labanya variety is a high-yielding, non-sticky black rice developed for better commercial cultivation and export. With rising international demand for healthy and speciality grains, the variety is emerging as a promising export crop for Odisha.

Bangladesh’s Assistance: Tk 4.6 Crore, 8,950 Tonnes Of Rice For Flood Relief

According to reports, following India's footsteps, in Bangladesh, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has allocated Tk 4.60 crore in cash and 8,950 tonnes of rice as humanitarian assistance to all 64 districts in the country to help in addressing the impacts of heavy rainfall and flooding over the six days from July 7 to July 12. The assistance has been allocated since July 7. According to the sources, Chattogram received the highest allocation in the list. The district was granted a total of Tk 65 lakh and 1,200 tonnes of rice in four phases. Cox's Bazar received Tk 30 lakh and 450 tonnes of rice, Khagrachhari Tk 20 lakh and 400 tonnes, Rangamati Tk 25 lakh and 500 tonnes, Bandarban Tk 20 lakh and 400 tonnes, Moulvibazar Tk 10 lakh and 200 tonnes, and Habiganj Tk 5 lakh and 100 tonnes of rice. In total, these seven districts received Tk 1.75 crore and 3,250 tonnes of rice. The remaining 57 districts were each allocated Tk 5 lakh in cash and 100 tonnes of rice, bringing the total allocation for those districts to Tk 2.85 crore and 5,700 tonnes of rice. The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief stated that humanitarian assistance would continue to be allocated as needed to ensure emergency food support for people affected by natural disasters.
