Karnataka Minister Orders Action Against Maize and Rice- Based BioEthanol Plant Evading Market Fees

In its significant step to boost agriculture, the Karnataka government has taken yet another strict action towards the misuse of rice-based bioethanol plant in Karnataka. Minister for Textiles, Sugarcane Development, Sugar, and Agricultural Marketing Shivanand Patil has warned officials to issue notices and file criminal cases against maize- and rice-based ethanol factories found evading market fees.

Karnataka Government Strict on Misuse of Agriculture Resources Including Bioethanol Plant

This is not the first time; Karnataka government has taken strict measures against those trying to misuse the agriculture resources. Recently, on 4th August 2025 officials from the Revenue Department and the Food and Civil Supplies Department seized 779 kilograms of rice meant for the Anna Bhagya scheme in Karnataka. Back to the original point, at a state-level meeting at Vikas Soudha on Friday, the minister emphasized that crops like maize, paddy, areca nut, chillies, and cotton are key sources of revenue for the Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs). The minister pointed out that some ethanol and rice mill owners have been evading market fees and instructed officials to keep a close watch on such mills, reported Udayavani.

Indian Government Focused on Promoting Green Energy

To promote green energy across the nation, the government is promoting biofuels, relying heavily on biofuels such as E20. As per the industry experts a large part of maize is now being diverted to make ethanol, which was earlier used as animal feed. Further, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also inaugurated India’s first bamboo-based bioethanol plant at Humaligarh Refinery Limited. PM Narendra Modi considered the inauguration of the bioethanol plant in Assam as a matter of great pride for the state.

Vigilance Wings Established to Prevent Such Cases

“Vigilance wings have been established across four divisions and equipped with vehicles and resources to prevent cess evasion; Patil expressed dissatisfaction that their objectives remain unmet. He raised concerns over the persistence of illegal transactions, suggesting that such “No. 2 transactions” could not occur without the involvement or negligence of officials.” Reports Obtained from a Reputed News Source.

With government taking stringent actions on such fraudulent activities, people are optimistic that such “No. 2 transactions” will be under control, further leading to the overall growth of India as a nation.
