CID Seizes 150 Quintals of Illegally Hoarded PDS Rice Worth ₹1.21 Crore in Karnataka

CID officials discovered 150 quintals of PDS rice, reserved for ration shops, worth around Rs. 1.21 crore illegally stored at a few mills in Yadgir district of Karnataka. According to the sources, hoarded PDS rice was stored in a cotton mill located in front of two rice mills since there are two cotton mills- Lakshmi Timappa and Ginning Mill- located in front of Shrilakshmi and Shrilakshmi Balaji rice mills.

What did the source reveal about stored PDS rice?

 A source stated that you cannot discover even a single weaving machine in either of the two cotton mills. CID found the illegally stored PDS rice in a godown of the cotton mills.
CID, on discovering a huge amount of rice, threatened the food and civil supplies department , authority officials have been asked to inspect the food grains and register a case.

What did Yadgir Additional DC say?

Yadgir Additional Deputy Commissioner Ramesh Kolora said: “we estimate the weight of the rice seized to be around 150 Kg. Not only this, CID officials also discovered mixed millets stored illegally. However, they will be weighed systematically and a case registered in a subsequent manner.
