PM Modi Announces Rs 35,400 Cr Boost for Agriculture Sector Under PM-DDKY

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched two major schemes to boost agriculture sector under PM-DDKY which are: PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana and Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses. PM launched two major schemes with an outlay of Rs 35,440 crore. Two major schemes to boost agriculture sector were launched in a special Krishi programme at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute held in New Delhi on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan.

PM-DDKY Launched with the objective of enhancing agricultural productivity

PM-DDKY (PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana) has been launched with an outlay of 24 thousand crore rupees with the objective of enhancing agricultural productivity, increasing adoption of crop diversification and sustainable agriculture practices and improving irrigation facilities and facilitating availability of long-term and short-term credit in the selected 100 districts.

Whereas the Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses has been launched with an estimated cost of 11 thousand 440 crore. It is aimed at improving productivity levels of pulses, expanding the area under pulse cultivation, strengthening the value chain – procurement, storage, processing – and ensuring reduction of losses. Pulses hold a special importance in India’s cropping systems and diets, given its status as the largest producer and consumer of pulses. In this context the initiative of Indian government to approve the mission of Aatmanirbharta in Pulses is no less than a major booster for the agriculture in India.

PM Dedicated Projects Valued at Over 5,450 Crore Rupees 

During the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also inaugurated projects valued at over 5,450 crore rupees in the agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, and food processing sectors, while laying foundation stone for additional projects with an estimated value of 815 crore rupees.

While addressing the gathering during the inauguration program, the Prime Minister said that the dedicated schemes ‘PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana’ and ‘Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses will help in transforming the fortunes of millions of farmers in the country. He emphasized, for 21st-century India to achieve rapid development, reforms in country’s agricultural system were essential, and this began in 2014.
