Farm, Agricultural, And Processed Food Exports Increased 10% In April–August 2025, Showing Steady Growth

Farm and processed food exports have increased in the current fiscal year, with shipments surging by close to 10% on year to $10.03 billion in April-August, 2025-26.

How did the surge in shipments of food exports suddenly boost?

Notably, the surge in shipments was boosted primarily due to an increase in exports of rice, buffalo meat, fruits and vegetables. The data provided by the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics has shown that the shipment of buffalo meat, dairy and poultry products in the first five months of FY26 rose sharply by around 20% to $2.17 billion. According to officials, a rise in demand for Indian bovine meat has been seen across the globe because of its quality and nutrient value. Interestingly, India is now the second biggest exporter of buffalo meat, and the export destinations include Vietnam, Malaysia, Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

A surge seen in rice exports, including Basmati and Non-Basmati varieties

A surge has been seen in Rice exports too, including Basmati and non-Basmati varieties, as it has increased by nearly 6.4% on year to $4.71 during the April-August period. Moreover, Rice exports have recorded around $12.47 billion in FY 2025. It is up around 20% as compared to the previous FY.

No doubt, basmati rice exporters are afraid off shipment prospects to the US market after the implementation of US 50% tariffs that came into effect in last month.
But when it comes to Bangladesh rice imports, India’s shipment of grain is higher than in FY 25.
