With AI automation and smart packaging redefining the Food Processing Industry, the sector is poised to reach $ 535 billion by 2025-26. Experts suggest that driven by rising consumption, exports, and government focus on ‘Make in India’, India will soon emerge as the global hub for food and packaging materials. Currently, the Food and Processing Industry accounts for 7.7 per cent of manufacturing output and supports over 7 million jobs. According to the experts at the Fi India and ProPak India event organised by Informa Markets, the organic food market of India is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20.13 per cent to USD 10.8 billion by 2033. Whereas the food ingredients market is growing at 7-8 per cent CAGR.
India’s Food Processing Industry is supported by schemes like the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme, and is witnessing strong growth, as seen in the participation of over 350 exhibitors from India and abroad. Schemes like Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana and One District, One Product (ODOP) are contributing to the advancement of Food Processing Industry in India. In FY 2023-24, India exported agricultural and processed food products worth US$46.4 billion. Unprecedented growth of India in the Food Processing Industry will not only strengthen the country’s economy but will also help in further strengthening India’s position in the international market.
