Dr. Prem Garg Discusses Restoration of RoDTEP Scheme on CNBC Awaaz

New Delhi, May 28, 2025 — In his recent interview with CNBC Awaaz, after the reinstatement of Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) scheme, Dr. Prem Garg, President of the Indian Rice Exporters Federation (IREF), shared his insights on the restoration of this scheme. The conversation was centred on the RoDTEP restoration for exporters and Dr. Garg’s demand from the India Government on India’s trade dynamics.

Dr. Garg further stated that RoDTEP is often misunderstood as export benefits, but however it is a replaced version of MEIS a subsidy scheme by government. He further demanded govt. to give 4% on RoDTEP instead of 0.9% which will be implemented from 1st June 2025. He noted that the reinstatement comes at a crucial time when exporters are seeking relief amidst global economic challenges.

“The RoDTEP scheme is a vital tool for our exporters,” Dr. Garg stated. “It’s reinstatement ensures that Indian products remain competitive in the global market by neutralizing the burden of non-recoverable taxes.”

He further informed people that to re-strengthen the position of India in rice market that was experiencing a moderate downfall due to the previous restrictions on export of rice a conference named Bharat International Rice Conference (BIRC) by Indian Rice Exporters in Collaboration with Government of India, Ministry of Commerce & Industry with APEDA is scheduled in September. The conference is aimed at motivating exporters and their ease of business. He highlighted the contribution of rice in agriculture export of India and focused on increasing the export percentage of rice to 50% which is now placed at 40%.

De. Garg extended his sincere thanks to the Government of India for their support and demanded their continuous attention and support towards rice sector.
